Your author presents a model that builds upon the work of John Carroll. This model has four elements. Please list each element, define each element and provide an example of classroom practice that illustrates that element
What will be an ideal response?
Slavin’s model is called QAIT. The four elements are: quality of instruction, appropriate levels of instruction, incentive and time. Quality of instruction refers to the degree to which presentation of information or skills helps students easily learn the material and is largely a product of the curriculum and of lesson presentation. Appropriate level of instruction refers to the degree to which the teacher makes sure the students are ready to learn a new lesson but have not already learned it. The level of instruction should be neither too easy or two difficult. Incentive is the degree to which the teacher makes sure that students are motivated to work on instructional tasks and to learn the material being presented. Time is the last element and refers to the degree to which students are given enough time to learn the material being taught. Individual student examples of each element will vary but the instructor should look for examples which highlight the key elements of quality of instruction-not just varied methods of instruction.
