Explain the two categories of jitter phenomenon.

What will be an ideal response?

Jitter phenomenon occurs in two different categories: Random (un-bounded) or deterministic (bounded). Random jitter is unpredictable jitter with no upper bound value which usually follows a Gaussian distribution similar to white noise. To keep the performance of a system at the optimal level, the random jitter must be far less than 1nsec. Deterministic jitter is predictable and repetitive jitters in the clock recover circuits of a network system. Deterministic jitter has bounded peak-to-peak value and comes from many sources such as intersymbol interference, duty cycle distortion, and switching power supply.
