Explain strategies available for saving energy when using a washing machine.
What will be an ideal response?
Because these machines run in programmed cycles, the only adjustment to their operation is usually the length of the wash portion of the cycle. This should be kept to the minimum needed to adequately clean the load. If the washer has adjustable settings for load size, these should be used as accurately as possible and the washer should not be overloaded for the setting chosen. Small load settings usually do not alter the length of the wash cycle, but they do reduce the amount of hot water used and this is an energy saving effect. Heat energy is also saved by operating the washer on a warm water setting for washing and cold water for rinsing. Hot water is rarely needed for washing or rinsing clothes.
