The patient with cataracts may complain of a decrease in vision, abnormal color perception, and glare, especially at night. Macular degeneration is related to retinal aging and is found predominantly in persons over age 55 . It is the most common cause of loss of vision in this age group. Otosclerosis refers to fixation of the footplate of the stapes in the middle ear. It is a common cause of conductive hearing loss in young adults.
