Why is the overall world population still increasing? What are the expectations for population growth in the future?
What will be an ideal response?
The overall world population is increasing because countries such as India and Indonesia are still in the transition phase where death rates have fallen, but birthrates are still high. In other nations with rising standards of living and modernization, birthrates are falling below the replacement rate. As more nations modernize, they will eventual see a fall in their birthrates. These changes are likely to produce a decline in world population during this century.
