1. One-point perspective is based on the following principles:
All parallel lines in a visual field appear to converge at a single vanishing point on the horizon (think of train tracks merging in the distance).
These parallel lines are realized on the picture plane —the two-dimensional surface of the panel or canvas—as diagonal lines called orthogonals.
Forms diminish in scale as they approach the vanishing point along these orthogonals.
The vanishing point is directly opposite the eye of the beholder, who stands at the vantage point.
