This requires the following key ingredients: (1) professional knowledge and skills, and (2) commitment, motivation, and caring. Professional knowledge and skills include subject matter competence, instructional strategies, goal setting and instructional planning skills, developmentally appropriate teaching practices, classroom management skills, motivational skills, communication skills, meeting the needs of students with individual variation, working effectively with students from culturally diverse backgrounds, assessment skills, and technological skills. Commitment, caring, and motivation include developing positive attitudes and enthusiasm, utilizing one's sense of humor, maintaining a list of positive teacher characteristics, engaging in perspective taking, and being willing to wear many hats.
