Describe the study of Harry Bahrick and colleagues analyzing the long-term memories of high-school graduates 1 to 50 years post graduation?
What will be an ideal response?
Harry Bahrick and his colleagues sought to find out how well high-school graduates would recognize photographs of their classmates. Some of their subjects had graduated 15 years earlier, and others had been out of school for some 50 years. The experimenters interspersed photos of actual classmates with 4 times as many photos of strangers. People who had graduated 15 years earlier correctly recognized people who were former schoolmates 90% of the time. But those who had graduated about 50 years earlier still recognized former classmates 75% of the time.
