Explain how a satellite can remain in orbit around the Earth without the expenditure of fuel
What will be an ideal response?
The gravitational force on the satellite acts toward the Earth inward along the radius of the satellite's orbit. The satellite's displacement at any moment is tangent to the circular orbit, in the direction of its velocity, perpendicular to the radius and perpendicular to the force of gravity. Therefore, the work done by gravity is zero. Hence, no work needs to be done against the force of gravity.
