What are the arguments for and against the proposal to raise the mandatory educational age to 18.
What will be an ideal response?
The argument for raising the age is that the knowledge base needed in the contemporary economy is much greater than when age limits of 16 or even 15 were written. An argument against is that students who do not want to be in school will be disruptive and inhibit the learning for students who do want to be there. There is also a financial argument against raising the age--it will require more teachers and more classrooms at a time of descaling state and local budgets.
