Explain the treatment of hyperglycemia
What will be an ideal response?
Patients experiencing hyperglycemia require insulin; however, insulin should never be administered to an unconscious patient because the amount of insulin required is not known. Thus, unconscious patients must be transported to a medical facility by way of emergency medical services. If a patient experiencing hyperglycemia remains conscious, then they should be instructed to administer their own insulin.
