Why would a reality therapist describe a client as “depressing” rather than being “depressed”?
What will be an ideal response?
Reality therapists see behavior as something that is dynamic and chosen by the client. The term “depressed” implies that something beyond the client’s control is causing the condition and the client is unable to do much to control it. By adding the suffix “-ing” to the behavior, it now becomes something the client is choosing to do and, therefore, is able to choose to modify or no longer engage in the behavior at any time.
