Answer: The main aspect of digital text that distinguishes it from other genres is its interactive nature. Digital text is not linear in nature. Hyperlinks embedded in websites allow the reader to go to completely different web pages or to a digital picture, video, or audio. The path of hyperlinks selected by the reader influences the direction and content of the text. In this way, the reader's purpose and choices determine the reading sequence rather than the author. Due to the unique nature of digital text, we use different comprehension strategies than with traditional print texts. Thus, knowing when and why to click a particular hyperlink is a strategic process, which influences comprehension.
A transaction must take place between the reader and the text when engaging in reading online. For this transaction to be successful, the reader, the text, the reading activity, and the content must be considered.
