What are the advantages of using vector-based animation formats? Are there any disadvantages? If so, what are they?
What will be an ideal response?
The advantages of vector-based animation formats are that they are very compact, due to the vector representation of geometries and the idea of reusing previously defined geometries. Further, the representation is resolution independent, so users can view the animation at any resolution. These formats also allow for customized user interactions, which have more flexibility than the VCR-type controls found with conventional video formats. Unfortunately, one big disadvantage of all vector-based formats is that no conventional browser comes equipped to display them. In order to view these files, a user must be willing to download a player.
