Differentiate process, performance, and person praise. How do each of these influence the development of intrinsic motivation.

What will be an ideal response?

Process praise involves evaluation of how process is carried out, performance praise praises the outcome, and person praise praises the attributes of a person (“you’re good at math”). Process praise focuses the student on controllable processes for succeeding, so it tends to support intrinsic motivation. The impact of performance praise depends on the nature of the praise. Performance feedback with controlling language tends not to support intrinsic motivation. Performance feedback that is informational and praises effort to get to the outcome can support intrinsic motivation.
