Why is it so difficult to interpret the geology of the Precambrian? How are these difficulties or limitations different in the younger eras of the Phanerozoic Eon? Finally, are there unique rocks or events in the Precambrian that are not present in

younger rocks?

The Precambrian is the earliest time period and virtually all of the rocks formed during this time have either been weathered away or subducted back into the mantle. In the younger periods and eras, more rocks still exist and we are able to build a more complete geologic and fossil history from this time. Precambrian rocks contain a record of Earth's atmosphere and early life.
