Describe how detector tubes reveal the presence and quantity of a specific gas.

What will be an ideal response?

The tube is calibrated in PPM or percent levels with marked increments on the side. The inside of the tube is filled with a material specific to the gas being tested and will change color as gas contacts the material. The length of color change along the scale reveals the amount of gas being tested for.
