A six-year-old boy fell while playing. He was not hurt, but later noticed that one of his front incisors was loose. He worried he had hit it when he fell. What was really more likely to have happened?

What will be an ideal response?

The first set of teeth that erupt in the mouths of small children are called the deciduous teeth, and are shed and replaced by larger, permanent teeth. The tooth that the boy notices is loose is probably just getting ready to be shed, with the root being resorbed, prior to it falling out and the permanent tooth appearing in the socket beneath it.
