If the murder was committed when the defendant was in this state of mind, it is assumed the ability to clearly understand the situation may be hindered by extreme emotion; manslaughter may be a charge for this type of murder when the following other conditions are also met:
a. There must be adequate provocation, more than just hand gestures or mean spirited words
b. There must have been no opportunity to cool off
c. There must be a causal connection between the provocation, the rage, anger, and the fatal act; there cannot have been any major lapse of time between these stages if the defense intends to assert that there was heat of passion
