Describe functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist solutions to gender-related inequality. Which perspective’s solution do you think is most viable?

What will be an ideal response?

• Symbolic interactionists - Finally, to some symbolic interactionists, gender and issues of gender inequality are—like beauty—“in the eye of the beholder,” and individuals typically have their own perceptions about the social interactions that occur in their own life.
• Functionalist - From this perspective, the primary “solution” to problems arising from gender differences is to be found in better education and in the strengthening of existing social institutions. Education contributes to women’s human capital and thus to their ability to earn wages and hold positions that are comparable to those of men. Strengthening other social institutions such as the family promotes having a two-parent household in which both parents share household responsibilities and are active participants in rearing their children.
• Conflict Perspective - Liberal feminists and liberal political analysts typically believe that gender inequality can be reduced through legislation that seeks to reduce discrimination and by programs that provide more opportunities for women
