Explain why it is important to have a sun safety policy in child care environments
What will be an ideal response?
Skin cancer from sun exposure begins in early childhood. Scientists believe that two things can predispose a person to skin cancer: (1) lifetime exposure and (2) severe sunburns. It may only take one severe sunburn as a child to cause melanoma in adulthood. Because children play so much outdoors and the outdoor environment in early childhood education environments is so important to children's development, it is critical that sun safety policies be followed.
