Briefly explain the function of fontanels and unfused sutures in a fetal skull

What will be an ideal response?

Fontanels and unfused sutures give the fetal skull a significant amount of flexibility. This flexibility ensures that an infant's skull is able to fit through the mother's vaginal canal during birth. The fontanels also allow the skull to enlarge as the infant experiences normal brain growth.
