What logic does the PCM use to detect a cylinder misfire?
What will be an ideal response?
The misfire monitor continuously compares the acceleration rate of each cylinder as it is fired to the median acceleration rates of the cylinders in the firing order sequence. Any cylinder not producing the expected acceleration rate (slower than expected acceleration rate compared to the other cylinders) is identified as a possible misfire occurrence. The crankshaft will momentarily slow during cylinder misfire and then reaccelerate when the next cylinder fires.
