Is leisure time affected by social class? In what ways?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary but should discuss that leisure time is strongly affected by social class. Many leisure activities are expensive. Those in the lower rungs of the stratification system in the Global North, and most of those in the Global South, are largely excluded from activities such as golfing and taking vacations. There are inexpensive leisure activities, but these are deemed desirable forms of leisure--for example, going to the beach or going to the park for a couple of hours. The demands of work make it difficult for lower- and middle-class individuals to take time off work or enjoy more expensive leisure activities. Students may also choose to tie in the concept of social class and gender. For example, women who belong to the lower and middle class have additional household duties they must tend to, which provides them with even less time to participate in leisurely activities.
