We depend on the environment for air, water, food, shelter, and everything else. We are capable of modifying and harming the environment whether we intend to or not. Understanding our interactions with the environment is the essential first step toward devising positive, sustainable solutions that will allow future generations to enjoy a rich and full world. Studying environmental science will give us the tools we need to evaluate information on environmental change and to think critically and creatively about possible actions to take in response.
