Apply Adler’s theory to Walter’s behavior. How does Adler’s style of life compare to the traits discussed by Cattell?

What will be an ideal response?

Adler would suggest that Walter’s handicap is an example of organ dialect, a way that his body, along with his mind, move toward the single goal of having others meet his needs and take care of him, as evidenced by his wife and children being submissive to him. This physical deficiency caused strivings for superiority. Superiority in this case is a matter of Walter being perceived as an authority figure. His style of life to achieve this goal was a matter of becoming a conservative Baptist minister whose authority would not be questioned.
Adler’s style of life is similar to traits in that it is described as the “flavor of a person’s life.” It can be perceived as a quality that permeates a person’s personality and influences behavior, just as traits do. This style of life is similar to Cattell’s source traits.
