Recent criticisms of integrated curriculum have been aimed at the way in which the curriculum is planned and implemented. When it is short-lived so in depth exploration is limited; when it is planned too far in advance and repeated each year; when the topic cannot be experienced in real ways; when the topic is "cute" yet not worthy of serious study; when used a shallow way without developing understanding, etc. (See criticisms of integrated studies on p. 413)
