What is the social judgment theory (SJT), developed by Sherif and Hovland (1961)? Explain how this strategy is used to achieve persuasion.
What will be an ideal response?
The social judgment theory maintains that individuals can be persuaded on a topic by being convinced to accept changes that are close to their already held beliefs. SJT argues that if you want to persuade someone, your argument must be in her or his latitude of acceptance. The latitude of acceptance is when the belief is close to the person’s own beliefs but not exactly the same belief.
