How do we identify the dead?

What will be an ideal response?

There are two types of identification, presumptive identification and positive identification. Presumptive identification is not a definite identification; it is based on assumptions. These assumptions may be based upon physical features (birthmarks, scars, tattoos, organs that have been removed and surgeries), clothing, personal items, circumstances surrounding death, and skeletal remains. Often more certainty can be given to a presumptive identification when it is based upon a number of factors (birthmarks, clothing, and scars, for example). Positive identification is definitive and generally is based upon one or more of the following: visual identification, X-rays, medical devices, fingerprints, dental records, and DNA analysis.
