Is there a relationship between human population growth and geologic hazards? If so, explain. Be specific in your answer and give examples

What will be an ideal response?

Yes, there is a relationship between some geologic hazards and human population growth. Global warming, for example, is related to fossil fuel consumption and deforestation and these in turn are related to the size of the human population. As human population increases, more fuels are consumed for transportation, agriculture, comfort, etc. Similarly, trees are cut down and soil is overused to grow more crops and raise livestock for a hungry world. Other geologic hazards such as earthquakes and volcanoes are not usually caused by people (though they can be!) However, population still affects the outcome of these natural hazards. As world population grows, more people may be forced to move into areas that have high risks. Thus, increased population puts more people in harm's way.
