What is ransomware? Give an example.

What will be an ideal response?

Ransomware prevents a user's device from properly operating until a fee is paid. One type of ransomware locks up a user's computer and then displays a message that purports to come from a law enforcement agency. This message, using official-looking imagery, states that the user has performed an illegal action such as downloading pornography and must immediately pay a fine online by entering a credit card number. The computer remains "held hostage" and locked until the ransom payment is made by entering a numeric credit card number.
