Describe the common types of pre-engineered metal building systems.
What will be an ideal response?
The common types of pre-engineered buildings available include the welded rigid frame, truss type, post-and-beam, and sloped roof. Welded rigid frame buildings provide for the widest possible spans without interior columns. They use rigid frames of rolled steel sections as the main structure and enclosing materials supported by light-gauge steel members. The complete assembly, including the steel frame, girts, purlins, and bracing, provides the needed strength. Truss-type buildings use steel columns and open-web joists and girders to form a roof. Joist girders span the long distances between steel columns. Smaller open-web joists serve as truss purlins between joist girders.
