Briefly describe the concept of the reaction range as it relates to the relationship between genetics and the environment on intelligence
Please provide the best answer for the best statement.
1.Research on adopted and twin populations shows that both genetics and environment contribute to the development of individual differences in intelligence. Reaction range for intelligence suggests that every child has a genetically based range of possible developmental paths. With a healthy, stimulating environment, children reach the top of their intellectual potential. However, a child raised in a poor, unhealthy, or chaotic environment is likely to develop a level of intelligence toward the bottom of the reaction range.
2.There is an upper and a lower limit to the reaction range and, therefore, even with an optimal environment, children with low intellectual abilities are unlikely to develop superior intelligence; and, even with a subnormal environment, children with relatively high intellectual abilities are unlikely to end up well below average in IQ.
