You notice
on the fetal monitor strip that J.F. is experiencing seven uterine contractions in a 10-minute period over a
30-minute window, with a few fetal heart rate (FHR) decelerations noted.
What is happening at this time?

Tachysystole is a type of uterine activity defined as five or more contractions in 10 minutes that
occur over a 30-minute window of time. Tachysystole might lead to reduced blood flow through the
placenta and if untreated might lead to fetal asphyxia and neonatal hypoxia.
