Differentiate Simple assault v. aggravated assault.

What will be an ideal response?

Simple assault is typically a misdemeanor, while aggravated assault is usually a felony

A crime that was a simple assault can sometimes be elevated to the category of aggravated assault if the victim was in a specially protected class of people, such as police officers, teachers, fire-fighters, etc.

Aggravated assault can be charged if the state can prove that the defendant attempted to cause or caused serious bodily injury to the victim under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life
