However, the basic aspects should include: basic information about the interview, an introduction which sets the stage and provides interview instructions, and opening question to develop rapport with the participant, content questions that are aligned to the research questions of the study, question probes that are reminders for the researcher to ask for more information or clarity of participants’ responses, and closing instructions that provide a final opportunity for participants to share any details and reaffirm confidentiality of the interview.
