Describe the hopelessness theory of depression

What will be an ideal response?

Having a pessimistic attributional style along with negative life events is not enough to
produce depression. A state of hopelessness is needed as well. Hopelessness expectancy is
the perception that one has no control over a situation that is about to occur as well as an
absolute belief that what is going to happen is going to be bad.
