Explain a handout. Discuss the advantage and disadvantage of passing presentational aids around to audience members. Suggest two alternatives to handouts.
What will be an ideal response?
A handout is material printed on sheets of paper to be distributed to an audience. It is a personal copy of the visual aid for the audience. The benefit is that everyone in the audience can have a copy to refer to and take with them after the speech.
The drawback of distributing handouts is that it can distract audience members from you and your message. Before you decide to use handouts, carefully consider why they would be better than some other method. If you decide to use handouts, distribute them at the end of the speech.
Instead of passing around visual aids, you can have them on a flip chart that the whole audience can see at the same time. Alternatively, you can present the information in computer slide show or audio recording.
