What does it mean when documents are "sanitized?"

What will be an ideal response?

Instead of destroying documents entirely, they instead can be sanitized. Sanitizing involves removing only sensitive information from a document. One type of sanitization is redaction, or the editing or blacking out of text in a document. This is intended to allow the selective disclosure of information in a document while keeping other parts of the document secret.
