How are Type A and Type B Behaviors similar? How are they different? Would Lydia be considered Type A or Type B? Would Madison be considered Type A or Type B? Explain.
What will be an ideal response?
Type As are high achievers—driven and action-oriented—but they can also be prone to obsessive behavior and chronic stress, and can be difficult for family, friends, colleagues, etc. to deal with. Type Bs can also be high achievers and driven (although not necessarily), but unlike Type As they have perspective, a better sense of the "big picture," so they are more pleasant to be around and are not as prone to obsessive behavior and chronic stress. An additional difference is that Type As’ behaviors put them at risk for heart disease whereas Type Bs’ behaviors do not.
Lydia would be considered Type A. As indicated in the answer to question 1 she displays all three components of the behavior pattern. Madison is more likely to be considered Type B because although she does strive to achieve, she does not have the same time urgency and hostility as Lydia does.
