Give an example of how you would conduct a home visit with a family. What would you do before, during, and after the visit?
What will be an ideal response?
Student answers will vary, but students should be able to discuss particular requirements for setting up, implementing, and following-up on home visits. For setting up visits, students may schedule a time and location convenient to the family, discuss the length and goals for the meeting, and establish what family members will participate. During the meeting, students may discussion communication interactions such as soliciting family feedback and opinions, use toys in the home to demonstrate intervention strategies, encourage families to interact with their child, and allow time for families to ask questions and raise concerns, if any. At the conclusion, they should summarize what was discussed and discuss next steps and next home visits. Follow-up should occur just as it's discussed in the home visit.
