Explain why the nine risk factors discussed on page 195 of the text are important when conducting an investigation of a missing child
What will be an ideal response?
The nine factors are:
• Is the child thirteen years of age or younger?
• Is the child thought to be out of the zone of safety for their age and level of development?
• Does the child have any mental or behavioral disabilities?
• Is the child on medication or any illegal substance? Are they drug dependent and is this dependency potentially life-threatening?
• How long has the child been away from home?
• Do the facts in the case indicate a life-threatening situation?
• Is the missing person in the company of someone who is known to be a danger to the missing person's welfare?
• Is the absence of the missing person inconsistent with that person's established patterns of behavior?
• Are there other risk factors or circumstances involved that would be a concern for the missing child's safety?
