What are the differences between qualitative research and statistics?

What would be an ideal response?

Quantitative research use statistical methods so progress and results will have numbers attached to it, like averages, percentages or quotas. Qualitative research however use non-statistical methods.

Example: You conduct a study and find out that 60% of college students take online classes. The quantity (60%) makes it quantitative research. A follow up qualitative study could interview a small percentage of those students to find out why. The answers are free-form and don’t have numbers associated with them, so that makes them qualitative.
