Briefly explain how to know if materials are developmentally appropriate.
What will be an ideal response?
Materials should match the stage of development of the children. Toddlers just mastering language and locomotion will benefit from play items that encourage vocabulary building, promote a sense of balance, exercise fingers, and feed their burgeoning sense of independence. Older preschoolers and primary children, however, need materials that engage their more refined skills in all areas of development. All early childhood materials, however, should actively involve children, be interesting, and be safe.
