Discuss the presence of Judaism in North America.

What will be an ideal response?

Jews have lived in North America from the early 1600s, with Dutch Jews of Sephardic origins settling first in New Amsterdam, which is modern New York City. For two hundred years, the majority of North American Jews were Sephardics. Jewish immigration to North America increased sharply in the early 1880s, driven mainly by persecution in Russia and Eastern Europe. Today, approximately 5.5 million of the world's 13.5 million Jews live in North America. Three major movements are found in North America today: Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox. A fourth movement, the Reconstructionist, is more liberal than Reform and is substantially smaller than the other three.
