Explain how engine temperature can play a part in diagnosing engine related noises.

What will be an ideal response?

Some engine problems only occur at a certain temperature. Some noises are only heard when the engine is cold and go away when the engine warms up. Piston slap, a common noise which is not always a problem, is a noise that goes away when the engine warms up. And the opposite is true. Some engine parts will make more noise and have problems as the engine warms up. When the engine warms up several things happen. The oil gets thinner, the metals start to expand, and the gaskets are stressed.
