What was the forested area in this country 300 years ago? What is it today? Explain how it can be that our smaller

forested area produces more wood today

What will be an ideal response?

At least one-half of the land area in this country was forested 300 years ago. Almost 70 percent (about 738 million
acres) of that area is still forested today. More wood is produced today because so much forest land is actively
managed. A mature forest produces no new wood. As an old tree dies naturally, new trees take its place and the net
production of wood is zero. In addition, some new varieties of commercial trees are faster growers than native trees

Vehicle #2 requires five quarts per change plus one quart whenever the filter is changed. Each year your family drives vehicle #1 about 16,000 miles and vehicle #2 about 24,000 miles. You change the oil filter every other time the oil is changed. The normal price for oil is $22.49 per case. Oil filters cost $4.39 each. How many total quarts will be used by vehicle #2 in one year?
