Explain how the technique of exon trapping works
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: See Figure 5.8. Vectors that carry inserted genomic fragments containing novel exons flanked by partial introns allow splicing of the 5? splice site of the vector intron with the 3? splice site adjacent to the exon and splicing of the 3? splice site of the vector intron with the 5? splice site adjacent to the exon. This allows a correctly spliced mRNA to reach the cytoplasm and yields a spliced RNA fragment that is longer than the size of the initial spliced RNA fragment.
