• Ravi Shankar, a virtuoso sitar player, has moved into the worlds of Western classical and pop music. Beginning in the 1960s his concerts eventually brought him superstar status in Europe, the United States and India.
• For example, Shankar's recordings with outstanding Western musicians such as the classical violinist Yehudi Menuhin in the West Meets East recording. Shankar also acted as musical mentor to George Harrison, famous guitarist in the Beatles.
