List and briefly discuss three reasons professional helpers are reluctant to give advice.

What will be an ideal response?

Giving advice is something that professional helpers do very sparingly. Clients have likely already received lots of advice, and it probably hasn’t helped. Clients seldom act on advice given. When a helper gives advice, it’s often a lose-lose situation for the client. If the advice does work, the client cannot take credit for the solution. If the advice does not work, consequences can be severe, possibly harming the client and the therapeutic alliance. Advice also comes in the form of preaching or lecturing, and these types of advice especially seem to say to the client that the helper is the expert, and the client is not capable of solving the problem alone.
